Telephone consultations

Telephone consultations are available to all clients including those outside of the Greater London area.

Being a remote consultation over the telephone, consultations are primarily aimed at assisting you with general fish health and husbandry questions and concerns.

Although telephone consults can’t truly replace the full benefits of a physical examination of your fish, telephone consultations are a good starting place for working up disease if a physical consultation is not possible. A working diagnoses* can often be made through a telephone consultation and treatment plans can be created using over the counter medications available from local or online retailers.

Please note the prescription of veterinary medications such as antibiotics is not possible through telephone consultations alone.

To get the most from your phone consult
Please test and record fresh water quality results (NH3, NO2, NO3, GH, KH, Cl2, pH, temperature, salinity) on the day of the phone call and submit photos when booking online. Further pictures/videos can be sent over via email.

Don’t have a water test kit?
London Aquatic Veterinary Services recommends NT Labs Aquarium Test Kit, NT Labs Pond Test Kit or API Freshwater test kit.

* ‘working diagnoses’ are possible diagnoses (causes) that the vet will make at the end of the phone consultation based on submitted photos, water quality data and information you supply. They are not final and cannot be guaranteed without physical examination of your fish.
